High Speed Internet Providers
|
High speed internet providers are available from several sources. When the internet first started, dial-up access was all that was available, with speeds ranging from 14.4K up to 56 K. No longer do internet users need to rely on slow dial-up service, which not only is very slow in comparison to modern services, but also tied up the phone. Most internet users will have choices between DSL and Cable high speed internet providers.
DSL typically ranges from 1mbs up to 10 mbs, but it relies on copper wiring and speeds vary based on how far the user is from the phone company’s offices. Cable internet is generally much faster, with speeds up 25 mbs, but may be more expensive. For DSL, users will need to install DSL filters, which usually is provided by their phone company for free. Cable users will need to install a cable modem. DSL is considered older technology, but may be suitable for those who do not need super-fast connections or only browse the internet on occasion. The faster DSL services are also suitable for video streaming, although the slower services may not provide functionality for HD films and videos.
Another option for some users is fiber optic high speed internet. Several phone companies and other high speed internet providers now provide this service and it is usually the most reliable and faster service available. However, it is usually is more expensive than DSL options. It is on par with prices from cable companies.
Both phone companies and cable companies also provide bundled deals, where the user can get phone, television and internet services for one single price. This price is usually quite a bit cheaper than what they pay for each service alone, but some companies only offer this deal for a limited time. After one year, or two years, their prices may go up after the deal expires. But high speed internet does provide the user with a much improved internet experience compared to old dial-up, so the greater expense is worth it to many customers. Video streaming, improved graphics, video chat, music and more are available to high speed internet customers, while slower dial-up simply becomes unusable using these services.
